New Delhi: A celebration at national level commemorate the canonization of Mother Teresa was organized by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Delhi and Eparchies of Faridabad and Gurgaon at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on 19 October 2016. Sri. Rajnath Singh Honorable Home Minister of Internal Affairs, India was the Chief Guest. “Alexander had come to India to conquer land but Saint Mother Teresa came with love to conquer hearts. Those who came near her for help spoke different languages but she spoke in the language of smile. She is always been referred as Mother instead of Sister because of the love bestowed by Indian on her,” said the Home Minister. His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, the President of CBCI presided over the function. “Following the courageous model of Mother Teresa who worked to bring the poor and marginalized to the main stream of the Indian society, the Church in India will continue the services to the poor and week people without any distinction of caste and religions” declared His Beatitude.
Rev. Sr Prema (Superior General, Missionaries of Charity), His Excellency Most Rev. Dr Jacob Mar Barnabas (Bishop of Gurgaon), Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas (Secretary General- CBCI), Msgr Joseph Chinnayyan (Deputy Secretary, CBCI) and Sri. Oscar Fernandes (Rajya Sabha member) spoke during the function. The messages of Sri. Pranab Mukharji, the Honorable President of India and Smt. Sonia Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress were red out. His Beatitude Cardinal Mar George Alencherry (the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church), His Eminence Cardinal Telesphore Toppo (Archbishop of Ranchi), His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias (Archbishop of Mumbai), Prof. P.J. Kurian (Deputy Speaker Rajyasabha), Justice Kurian Joseph (Supreme Court) and many dignitaries were present in the function. The mementos to all dignitaries were distributed Archbishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara (Bishop of Faridabad).
