Jesus Youth Movement gets Pontifical Approval by Pope Francis

Vatican/Angamaly: The Pontifical Council for Laity has recognized Jesus Youth as an International Private Association of Catholics, granting its canonical approval the Youth movement celebrated ‘DaivaparipalanaAagosham’ on 22 May 2016 at St. Joseph’s High School, Angamaly. Moran MorBaselios Cardinal CleemisCatholicos, the president of CBCI and KCBC participated in the ceremony and said: “Jesus Youth is an initiative of vibrant groups of young people, who focused on the Lord Jesus Christ and filled with fearless joy.” The thanksgiving Holy Mass was celebrated by Bishop Mar Raphel (Chairman, Charismatic CommissionKCBC). The Major Archbishop His Eminence Cardinal Mar George Alancherry and His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Francis Kallarackal joined the ceremony.Thousands of people gathered the ceremony, including Rev. Fathers and Rev. Sisters from various parts of Kerala.Jesus Youth is the first movement in the history of the Catholic Church in India and the second in Asia to receive such a pontifical approval. With the activities of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movements in Kerala young people started to form as small prayer groups in early 1980’s. In 1984, during the International year of Youth, these groups came together under the name ‘Jesus Youth’, and over the ensuing years the association spread across India. Today Jesus Youth Movement gets attention and active in more than thirty countries around the world, with a presence in five continents.
