Dalit Christains in India Honored with Awards

New Delhi: On the occasion of 125th anniversary of the birth of B.R. Ambedkar , one of the architects of the Indian Constitution and a past champion of Dalit rights, conducted by CBCI Commission for Scheduled Caste/Backward Caste. Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos , President of CBCI, honored Mr Arokiya Das, a Dalit Christain, by handing over a community work awards on 23 May 2016, in New Delhi. His Beatitude presented awards to 72 Dalit Christains. On the occasion His beatitude said that "Not enough has been done by the church for the dalits in the economic, social and religious spheres. We have a long way to go." In the presence of the distinguished guests Archbishop Salvatore  Penacchio, the Apostolic Nuncio of India and Nepal, honored Rev. Fr Devasahayam Raj, the secretary of CBCI SCST Commission. They were given memento and a certificate recognizing their work aimed at empowering Dalit Christains. Hon’ble  Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, chairman of Human Rights has participated in the ceremony.
